| 2948 | Obituary: Neldina Holubec Marek December 30, 1926 - April 28, 2015 Neldina Holubec Marek died at her home in the early morning hours of April 28, 2015. She had endured many health problems for several years and was ready to go to her home in heaven to be with all of her loved ones-especially her husband for 60 years, Theodore Joseph Marek, who died on 4/6/2009. Other loved ones waiting for her in heaven are her parents John and Fannie Holubec, sisters Ella Holubec, Vlasta LaFaitte, Dorothy Holubec, Milady Skrivanek, and brother Ernest Holubec. Neldina was the fourth child born to John and Fannie Holubec on December 30, 1926 in Caldwell, Texas. Her family moved to Austin, Texas when she was a young child. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944. She married Theodore J. Marek on May 29, 1948. In 1951 her first child, Janette, was born followed by her son, Larry, in 1955. She loved her children and was a devoted mother. The family made Austin their home until 1966. In 1966 they moved to San Marcos, Texas because Ted became the Chief Auditor at SWT. Nel hated to leave Austin but quickly made friends in San Marcos and came to love San Marcos too. She worked for SMCISD as the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for 25 years. She was a hard-worker who loved her job and co-workers. She developed close friendships with many of these people that have lasted for decades. When she retired, they hired two people to do the work she had done. For many years after retirement, she and Ted traveled extensively around the world and enjoyed their grandchildren, Jennifer and Johnny. She was very social and loved to get together with her family and friends. She loved to play games, especially 42. The thing she enjoyed most after moving to an assisted living facility in Kyle, Texas in 2013 was being able to play games in the morning and afternoon. Nel was baptized in the Moravian Brethren Church as a baby and was a faithful member of the Austin Brethren Church until her death. Even after moving to San Marcos, Ted and Nel drove 30+ miles to church every Sunday. When Ted could not drive any longer, Nel drove them. When Nel couldn't drive any longer she had her children or caregivers drive her. She loved her church. Nel is survived by her daughter Janette Hall and husband John of Mountain City, TX, son Larry Marek and wife Becky of San Antonio, TX, her sister, Gardina Holubec of Austin, granddaughter Jennifer and husband Elliott Kruppa of Houston, TX, grandson Johnny Hall of Kyle, TX, great-grandson Elijah Kruppa, and great-granddaughter Claire Kruppa. Nel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived a blessed life and was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but we take solace knowing that she is in heaven with her Lord and Savior and happy to be reunited with her loved ones. Mrs. Carriker passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012 in Santa Fe. She was a resident of Carlsbad for 65 years before moving to Santa Fe in 2008 to be with her daughters. Rose Nell Hunter was born September 18, 1918 in Clairemont, Texas to George A. Hunter and Lula M. Harrison Hunter. She received her early education in Electra, Texas. She met and married George S. Carriker in Electra on April 17, 1938. Nell was already active in the Methodist church when they moved to Carlsbad in 1943 from Ft. Sumner. Her life in Carlsbad was characterized by her devotion and her service to her church until recent years when she had been unable to travel on her own. She taught Sunday school, played the piano for some Sunday school classes, was the District Treasurer under Dr. Hollis Shook and others for over 14 years and was a charter contributor to the establishment of Landsun Homes. She supported the Methodist Youth Fellowship, the Methodist Women and served on the Centennial Committee for the 100th birthday of the church in 1990. She made countless treks to Sacramento Methodist Assembly with her daughters Jan and Paula and with Nell Randall who shared her enthusiasm and devotion to the church and to the young people of the church. In 1954, the Carlsbad Current Argus named her Woman of the Week and pointed out the numerous groups that she supported - including the La Huerta Volunteer Fire Department, the Rebekah Assembly of New Mexico, Carlsbad chapter where she served in every position including Noble Grand, and was named Worthy Advisor to the Theta Rho Girls - teen girls developing their community service; The Pilot Club of Carlsbad where she worked tirelessly for years to give service to the community. She was President of the club in 1962, and was named Pilot of the Year in 1979. Mrs. Carriker was a member of the Eddy County Sheriff's Possettes, Carlsbad Foundation, Carlsbad Community Concert Association and the Child Guidance Club which fostered community parenting. She was president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a co-leader of the Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls groups to which her daughters belonged. Nell worked for Dr. H. D. Pate as a receptionist and when they became owners of the Star Pharmacy, Nell worked as bookkeeper and was a constant support to her husband, George, in their business. Mrs. Carriker had several guardian angels including Larry and Signe Henderson; Connie and Brenda Day and Sara Jackson, a friend and helper since 1947. Many in Santa Fe have offered prayers and service. Mrs. Carriker lived in Santa Fe from November 2008, and was loved and cared for by Bishop Shri Kingsford and members of the Eternal Life Church, her long time friend and Pilot Club buddy, Mildred Wright of Hernandez, NM, and by friends and clients of her daughter Jan.
